Another reason that she was called the “Miracle Child” was due to the fact that she ended up with double vision because her eyes were crossed and the doctors had to have a patch on her eyes and alternate every two hours to help to strengthen her eyes and fix her vision. They told her that they were going to send her to a specialist, as they felt that she may never be able to wear contact lenses again and may even have to wear “coke-bottle” glasses for the rest of her life. But Lauretta had other plans! The night before she was to go to the specialist, she prayed and visualized perfect vision all night long. The next morning, she was ecstatic to find out that her vision was completely restored! The specialist was very shocked and said to her “are you sure that you are the same girl that I received a fax on? “ He then told her you truly are a “Miracle Child.”

With nothing working in her body except her mind, she contributes her fast recovery to her constant visualizations of being completely healed and of walking across the stage with a microphone in her hand. She listened to music 24 hours a day while recovering, which helped to inspire her and once she was able, she would sing as much as she could which helped to strengthen her diaphragm, thereby helping her breathing, which significantly sped up her healing. She would practice in her room at the rehabilitation centre with her door closed, and when she finished singing her songs, the doctors and nurses would stand outside and clap for her and encourage her to follow her dream. She had to relearn how to use all of her motor skills as well as walk again and with the help of extensive physiotherapy she was walking by October. Before this Maria and Lauretta were dabbling in the music industry as solo artists, Maria won the Star Search ’89 Competition in Moncton, New Brunswick as well as many other singing competitions and Lauretta was also singing at numerous venues. Lauretta’s illness gave them the inspiration they needed to join together and start their singing career as a duo and begin their musical journey. >> CONTINUE
